About this place
Tucked into a quiet corner of Arashiyama across the Togetsukyo Bridge, Arashiyama Sakura serves Japanese cuisine that sensitively reflects the changing seasons. Meticulous craftsmanship elevates every dish, from a clear soup infused with the rich essence of clam and prawn to a vibrant hassun assortment featuring Saikyo-marinated Spanish mackerel, bamboo-leaf-wrapped mackerel sushi, and roasted duck.
Cooked in a clay pot so that every grain stands tall and glossy, freshly steamed white rice is one of the highlights near the end of the meal. Dessert follows with house-made dorayaki pancakes paired with matcha, bringing the course to a gentle, satisfying close. Alongside thoughtful sake pairings tailored to each dish, the drinks list is well appointed with Japanese wines such as Aruga Branca Clareza and Yoshi Chardonnay, a 7-year-aged umeshu known as Kyo Johba Aodani, and bottled Royal Blue Tea.
The dining space offers counter seats where diners can enjoy each dish while conversing with the chef, as well as private rooms for a quieter, secluded meal. With reservations required for both lunch and dinner, setting aside an unhurried window during your travels allows you to appreciate the experience at its best.
